A man has been jailed for three years and nine months for the assault of a police officer in Dumbryden.

Lewis Mackie, 23, struck the officer with a vehicle on Friday, 6 December, 2024, on Dumbryden Gardens. Officers had attempted to stop the vehicle that was reported as stolen.

Mackie was found guilty on Wednesday, 4 March, 2026 at the High Court in Edinburgh. He was sentenced on Wednesday, 1 April, at the High Court in Inverness.

Detective Inspector Alan Sharp said:

Mackie’s actions resulted in an officer requiring hospital treatment. Such attacks on officers who are carrying out their duties are wholly unacceptable.

Officers work to keep the public safe and any violence towards them will not be tolerated.

We will continue to take action against anyone who harms officers while carrying out their duties.
