WHALE Arts will be showing a new series of three family friendly films as part of the Local Cinema Network over the next few months.
The first screening will be Hoppers taking place at 2.30pm on Friday 25 September 2026, 2.30pm – 4.30pm.
A 19-year-old animal lover uses technology that places her consciousness into a robotic beaver to uncover mysteries within the animal world beyond her imagination.
The WHALE free community meal will run from 1pm – 2pm, so turn up a little early, enjoy lunch and then settle in to watch the film.

Friday 30th October 2026, 2:30pm – 4:30pm
How to Train Your Dragon
Friday 29th January 2026, 2:30pm – 4:45pm
These film screenings are free and family-friendly. Children must be accompanied by an adult. No need to book, just turn up.
Local Cinema is a network of community cinemas across Edinburgh, led by WHALE Arts. It supports film screenings co-curated with and for local communities across a range of community spaces in the city, including WHALE Arts; North Edinburgh Arts, Duncan Place Community Hub, Space @ Broomhouse Hub, Craigmillar Now and The Crannie Community Hub. For their 26/27 programme, they are supporting three new community cinemas: Drylaw Neighbourhood Centre, Norton Park Centre, and Royston Wardieburn Community Centre to screen films for their communities.
