The Wester Hailes Library is celebrating it’s twentieth birthday today!
Drop in to the library to see a display of some archive photos and reports on the opening. They also have plans to hold events celebrating the momentous occasion over the coming months.
Back in 1997, the Sentinel marked the opening of the library with a front page headline to celebrate the building of the biggest and best library in Edinburgh for over 100 years. It also had Edinburgh’s first teenage library, providing access to computers for young people as well as “listening points”. Though the upstairs teenage library may not be in use anymore, the computers continue to be some of the most well used in Edinburgh and the library offers activities for local children all through the year.
