
Two local projects, WHALE Arts Local Cinema Network and Starcatchers Expecting Something, have been shortlisted as a finalists for The Community Award at the 2025 Creative Edinburgh Awards.
The Creative Edinburgh Awards celebrate the city’s creative community, highlighting the projects, people and places that flourish across Edinburgh and continually ensuring its place on the cultural map, nationally and internationally.
Local Cinema is a network of community cinemas across Edinburgh, led by WHALE Arts. It has supported community screenings across the city for three years now – in Pilton, Muirhouse, Leith and Craigmillar, and in Wester Hailes in the WHALE Arts Centre, the Community Wellbeing Space and Space @ Broomhouse Hub.

Starcatchers Expecting Something offers free creative play sessions for wee ones aged birth to two years old and their families who live in and around Wester Hailes, led by artists Kerry Cleland and Katy Wilson. They meet weekly at the WHALE Arts Centre every Thursday and hold regular Starcatchers Saturday sessions.

- Edinburgh Open Workshop
- RMB Dance Edinburgh
- North Edinburgh Arts
- Bare Productions CIC
The winners for all categories will be announced at the awards ceremony on Friday 14th November 2025.
