
New MSP for local constituency Edinburgh South Western, Simita Kumar, is recruiting three positions to build her constituency team.
The three positions are:
Two Casework Assistant Vacancies
Fixed term six months with a salary of £29,335- £36,012, depending on experience and skills, with one role full time 35 hours per week, and another part-time 21 hours per week.
Responsibilities
Supporting with keeping casework up to date and responding to public enquiries.
- Keeping cases up to date by tracking, logging and recognising when to escalate issues within team.
- Meeting constituents on a wide range of issues, including those of a sensitive nature and escalating accordingly.
- Advocating on constituent’s behalf with relevant bodies to resolve matters.
Reviewing constituent records and documentation in line with casework GDPR requirements.
- Ensuring casework filing systems, both electronic and manual, are kept up-to-date in line with GDPR requirements.
Requirements
- Have excellent organisational skills while being flexible in prioritising workloads during busy times.
- Have excellent communications skills, with accurate attention to detail and the ability to work effectively with colleagues.
- Be patient and sensitive while remaining objective and open minded.
- Be comfortable being in a front facing role explaining regulations such as GDPR to the general public.
- Be acutely aware of the responsibility of representing those unable to do so themselves in certain situations.
- Have a natural interest in helping people with a curiosity to probe for further information where required.

Communications and Engagement Assistant
Fixed term six months, with a salary of £30,687 – £36,523 (FTE); depending on experience, working 21 hours per week part-time.
This is an opportunity for someone with strong communication skills, digital media experience and an interest in public service to help engage with constituents and support parliamentary work.
Simita particularly welcomes applications from candidates from the local Edinburgh South Western constituency area.
Responsibilities
Producing materials that effectively convey my aims to the general public and media.
- Keeping up to date with current media developments.
- Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders.
- Corresponding with stakeholders and local campaign groups.
- Producing high quality press briefings, presentations and written materials.
Following social media, online media and news outlets to capture relevant developments as they happen.
- Maintaining information systems to support communications activity.
- Maintaining and growing social media presence
- Drafting and posting high-quality digital & social media content to update constituents of my parliamentary activities
- Reviewing social media trends and emerging digital developments, briefing me in matters of relevance to my parliamentary and role.
Supporting the day-to-day management, development and growth of social media channels, ensuring a consistent and engaging digital presence that effectively conveys my aims to the general public and media.
- Keeping up to date with current media developments.
- Building and maintaining positive working relationships with media contacts and stakeholders.
- Supporting engagement with constituents and local campaign groups via digital and traditional communication channels.
- Producing digital-first communications including press releases, briefings, speeches, presentations and written materials.
Requirements
- Have an interest in politics with the confidence to represent someone effectively using digital media strategies including social and traditional media
- Be capable in monitoring media developments and sourcing information from a range of channels
- Have the ability to foster good working relationships with confidence to understand how the social media / media world operates.
- Experience in digital content creation, including ideally video creation and editing, often with short turnaround deadlines
- Familiarity with social media management tools (e.g., Hootsuite) and graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop & Canva).
- Be able to respond flexibly and creatively to range of requests, such as media enquiries and press releases.
- Have a flexible and adaptable approach, being able to use good judgement and work on own initiative.
